It takes a community to raise a community
Rosetta Steps Education Center was founded in 2014 by Ama Harris. Parents in the Duala community were desperate for help for their children to learn to read and receive basic life skills and knowledge. Seeing the dire need, Ama transformed her mother's childhood home into the organization’s base. A reading room was opened in 2015, and equipped with books, computers, televisions, and other learning aids. The school formally opened in 2016 and has continued to grow in size, scope, quality, and impact. In response to increased demand, in 2020, Rosetta Steps is moving into a new custom built facility in Duala which will be able to hold 175 students. The new facility will include 7 classrooms, a science lab, a library, and staff offices.
